As humanity battles swarms of flesh-eating bugs, a teenage girl is forced to go on the run with her younger sister, and discovers powers of her own that may be the key to saving the world
Great domes cover wealthy enclaves around the world, protecting those with money or influence from huge, virus infected swarms. In a desperate bid to protect the future, welfare centres are established for poor children - families given the stark choice of giving them up, or watching them die. Scientists search for cures and continue their quest for Higgs boson – the God particle; recreating the ‘Big Bang’, and unwittingly tampering with the fabric of the universe.
Lizzy Bruce and her little sister Maddie, seemingly ‘targeted’ by the deadly swarms, seek refuge in a centre, but quickly realise they are not sanctuaries, and that the swarms are not the only things that threaten their world.
Judges' Comments: Super suspenseful high-concept sci-fi. A very compelling story -- topical, inventive and smart. Wonderful young leads who feel like real three-dimensional characters. Exciting action sequences and very strong dialogue. What a superb script!
