Episode 1: Bing & Moo
Poor Bing, his mother wants to keep him close, while everyone else goes off and has fun (if you call bashing sabretooth tigers fun).
Everyone thinks he's a little bit mad, especially when he adds a painting of a flower to their official cave-painting. Bing goes off alone and meets Moo, who introduces him to captive fire and her baby wolf cubs. Bing brings fire back to the Clan and they feel warmth for the first time in their cave. |
Episode 2: Fire, Food and Apprentices
After Bing brings fire to the cave, he gets apprenticed to the elder, Imbi-Imbilump. He goes fishing with Moo and accidentally learns to cook meat on the fire. His big, brutish brother Lamburger takes an unexpected interest, becoming the Clan chef. Bing, annoyed with using the number 'One' for everything, decides to name his fingers - and invents counting.
Moo, alone in her cave, forges a stronger bond with Stinky and Poopy, her wolf cubs, training them to catch food for her.

Episode 3: Words, painting and make-up
There were limited adjectives available to the cave-folk, and they battle with describing things, miming what they mean. Bing and Moo confer and create names for major food groups, shapes and some colours.
Meanwhile, Bing's apprenticeship continues and Imbi-Imbilump take him to a dinosaur grave-yard (he is worried they are waiting to come back). Bing realises they are long dead but agrees to paint them to please the god of big-big cold who killed them off. Moo shows him how to mix the colours he wants and creates a masterpiece.
Oom, Bing's formidable Mother, takes an unexpected interest - experimenting disastrously with make-up.

Episode 4: Domestication of Animals and Farming
Autumn is coming and the tribe begin collecting food . Moo discovers plants growing outside her cave and realises she can plant things where she wants them. Bing’s tribe want to move on so he reluctantly introduces them to Moo, who shares her crop with them so they can stay ‘neighbours’ and in one place by planting their own crops in the spring.
The tribe do not accept the wolf cubs Stinky and Poopy however, and set out to kill them. A sabre-toothed tiger corners them and they are saved by the wolves and soon, everyone wants an animal of their own - with hilarious results (skunks do not make good pets - even in a cave).

Episode 5: Houses and Pottery & Medicine
The tribe prospers as they supplement their food with farmed crops, and starts growing - more children, plus stragglers who seek to join them.
They outgrow their cave and begin experimenting with ways to house everyone.
Moo discovers that other things can be baked and she begins making clay pots and plates and beads for jewelry. She continues to experiment with herbs and plants, discovering that some plants numb pain, while others make you sick!

Episode 6: Houses, 'Domestication' of women, Clothing and Social Mores
Appearance gets more important and the tribe start softening leather more and making better clothes. Women begin to move into a role of staying home (cooking, tending crops) while men go out hunting.
As the roles become more distinct, people begin to focus on status symbols, roles become entrenched. A political system starts, with the concept that all the new people need to know the rules and follow them. For example, you cannot poo outside someone's door - even if you don't like them.

Episode 7: Towns, Irrigation and War!
As they perfect their houses, they realise crops grow better near the river and the first town is built. The Clan leave the cave behind completely and move to near their crops and cattle.
Bing discovers copper - more reliable than flint, harder than clay.
All is not well though - other tribes want what they have, and they have their first war.

Episode 8: Counting, Schools, Bricks and Trade
Oh dear, it had to happen... Schools! Well, learning and apprentices, quite a bit harsher than schools today.
As their vocabulary increases, the children have to learn. They begin evolving writing as well as pictorial art. Maths gets more advanced with hilarious consequences for the adults trying to teach it (the kids are better).
As they expand, they need more houses. Moo creates the first brick and they begin building. Religion plays an ever more important part in their lives and evolves.
Other tribes (who did not make war on them) have been copying them! Farming and building in their own areas, but each area is different and soon travelers start trading, and soon they begin to develop trade routes.

Episode 9: The Wheel, horse-riding and Bronze Age
Well, with all that farming, Bing's back is sore. Sitting with Moo one afternoon, she notes a pebble rolling down a hill. With a bit of experimentation, the first wheel is made - pretty soon adapted to fit onto animals to pull as ploughs and carts.
Wolves have been bred to resemble our present day dogs, but thn a new animal is encountered and tamed - the horse! Bing and Moo learn to ride 'for fun', nearly killing themselves in the process.
Things are changing rapidly when, by accident, Moo creates Bronze. Her interest is in jewelry and plates... but it is quickly seized as a weapon!

Episode 10: Tax Collectors and Leaving Home
As the village expands, and as more war is fought and disease kills people, Oom realises that everyone must share their produce - not just as trade, but to support families left when parents and older siblings die.
She introduces a tax, though a lot of it seems to go on jewelry for herself.
Bing, saddled with more and more responsibility whilst still treated like a child, misses the old days.
When Moo is told she must join the Clan AND marry one of Bing's brothers, they've had enough. They take a horse each and leave home.
