Ta RAINDANCE for the update: The British Film Institute Maps Out Five Year Funding Plan http://bit.ly/Jb1NgI - interesting reading! Hopeful? Seems a bit of a small pie to be sharing with so many people...

I'm thinking my killing 2 birds with 1 stone ; flex my writing muscles whilst removing myself from a tiny % of the catalogue companies that share my details & consume so much paper - ah, a 3rd benefit - saving the planet.
Dear Sir / Madam (do any mails start like that any more?): BODEN - I don't wear smocks. The White Company - Do you offer a budget range of off-white? Beige or grey or sometimes pale pink, which is how they'll end up anyway. Sweat Betty - In my part of London, wearing a £100 t-shirt for exercise is asking for trouble. NEXT - I can & do use the internet. I also do use my legs and pass many of your shops... I do not however have room in my recycling for your hard cover tomes, delivered twice a year. Thompson & Morgan / Gardeningworld / Bulbs r us (take your pick) - Much as I love your flowers / fruit / veg, I have a handkerchief instead of a garden Not on the high street - That's not a new concept - there is, in fact, very little on the high street these days, except pound shops. BODEN - Thanks for the discount, but I still don't wear smocks Now, how do I direct all these retailers to this blog, rather than write to them individually? A lovely lady at Valerie Hoskins Associates sent me a lovely rejection email. She DID read my submissions (Woo) and took a lot of effort to explain why they couldn't represent me - presently - but I am welcome to submit again and she committed to reading what I send.
Is that good? Hmm, I guess it's progress? Onward and upward, that's the plan Cine Story quarter finalists announced - Collider made the first cut! http://www.cinestory:
"In the next round, scripts will be read by two industry professionals, including working agents, producers, managers, screenwriters and directors." We'll see if they like my kind of weird stories, though I'm not sure who read the first phase? Still, exciting news - first results and it's not dead in the water! I shall have a nice cup of tea to celebrate. I had done my quota of competitions this year, mostly right at the start, but then this came up: http://awards.screenwritinggoldmine.com/judges.
The judges are brilliant! So Collider has been added...I've submitted Red Star to the Beeb Writer's Room already but Paul Ashton is a pull - not sure if I should submit this here as well? Hmm - still, got a couple of weeks to ponder. I watched Marvin Acuna's sales pitch for the Business of Show Institute (Bosi). Could be a good package.... but I'm Not going to do it - he doesn't give anything away, he just sells, sells, sells and I don't like salesmen! I don't like being 'sold at', and I don't like people trying to tell me I will/won't, can/can't do something unless I use their product. |
